In order to fully release the tension keeping it in gear or get the gears to mesh going in, you want to be moving 1-3 mph in either direction when ever you shift in or out. Always try to shift out of 4x4 low on before getting on a hard surface, especially turning.This has been happening to me for months. They changed the valve body and still not fixed. 28000 miles on my Limited and it locks in 3rd or slams hard into 4th. I have to shut off the truck and restart. Still happens almost every time it goes from 3rd to 4th. The only way to correct it is to pull over and turn truck off for 5-10 minutes and then restart it.
